We present...MIHAELA BUZARNESCU (ROU)

One of the biggest returns this season was made by Mihaela Buzarnescu, professional tennis player from Romania. Mihaela was born in the capital of Romania, Bucharest. She was born on May 4, 1988. She is left-handed (two-handed backhand) player and her coach is her father Mihai Buzarnescu. Her hobbies are Music and swimming. 

Until this year and a fantastic season, Mihaela played mostly on smaller WTA tournaments and at ITF tournaments. In her career so far, Mihaela won 22 ITF tournaments in singles and 33 ITF tournaments in doubles. The biggest tournament was won this year in Poitiers (FRA) ($ 100,000).

Her current Singles Ranking is 60 and that is her Career High Singles Ranking. In doubles, Mihaela is on 104 on WTA doubles Rankings. For 13 years of her professional tennis career, Mihaela has made nearly 300 wins in the singles and doubles at the ITF, WTA level.

2004:

Mihaela played first professional tournaments in mid-2004 on domestic ground in Romania. During the first senior year, Mihaela won two Futures tournaments in singles and one Futures doubles tournament in Romania. She finished year at 621 on the WTA Singles Rankings and 587 at the WTA Doubles Rankings.                                                  

2005:

During 2005, Mihaela played on more than 10k and 25k tournaments, but she also recorded victories in strong categories tournaments (50k, 75k). She scored the biggest success in the tournament in Antalya ($ 25,000) where she reached the quarter-finals and lost the match in the semifinals of Ekaterina Dzehalevich (BLR). She finished her year 427 on WTA Singles Rankings and 522 on WTA Doubles Rankings.                                                    

2006:

In April 2006, Mihaela received a call for the Fed Cup against Sweden. She played one match in the doubles with Sorana Cirstea. She also won the first ITF 25k tournament in La Palma, Spain. Mihaela beats in a final match Nadja Pavic (CRO) 6-3,6-7,6-3. She also played semi-finals of the 50k tournaments in Rimini, ITA. In 253 place WTA Singles Rankings and 390 WTA Doubles Rankings, Mihaela finished 2006.

2007:

In 2007, Mihaela won doubles titles (10k) in Rabat, Morroco, (25k) in Sofia, Bulgaria, (25k) in Batumi, Georgia and recorded several solid results on more than 10k and 25k tournaments. She played during 2007 and a couple of qualifications at the WTA tournaments. However, in 2007 it recorded a decline in the WTA list and ended the year at 421 in singles and 207 in doubles.

2008:

Until June 2008, Mihaela recorded poor results, but in June she managed to win 2 futures on home court in Pitesti and Bucharest. After these two tournaments, he won another doubles tournament in Kharkiv, Ukraine ($ 25,000). At the end of the year, she recorded slight progress on the WTA list, so she finished the year in TOP 400 singles and close to TOP 200 in doubles.

2009:

In 2009, Mihaela made progress only in doubles, winning 4 doubles tournaments ($ 10,000 Bucharest, $ 10,000 Antalya-Belek, $ 10,000 Le Havre, $ 25,000 Cairo). In singles, the biggest success in 2009 was made at $ 100,000 in Biarritz (FRA) where she reached the second round and defeated by Jessica Moore (AUS). The year ended at 433 in singles and 323 in doubles.

2010:

In 2010, Mihaela continued with average results, throughout the year she managed to win 5 doubles tournaments and 2 singles tournaments. In the doubles she won the following tournaments ($ 10,000 Antalya, $ 10,000 Vic, $ 10,000 Onesti, $ 10,000 Bucharest, $ 25,000 Podgorica) and in singles ($ 10,000 Onesti, $ 10,000 Bals). She also played more than 25k tournaments and recorded performances on 50k and 75k itf tournaments. Her ranking at the end of 2010 was 407 in singles and 279 in doubles.

2011:

The first better results, Mihaela recorded during 2011 when she entered the top 200 singles and doubles. She won 5 doubles doubles ($ 10,000 Wiesbaden, $ 10,000 Florence, $ 25,000 Samsun, $ 50,000 Saransk, $ 50,000 Telavi) and 3 ITF tournaments in singles ($ 25,000 Izmir, $ 25,000 Craiova, $ 25,000 Zwevegem). She also took part in US Open, but lost in the last round of qualifications by Marina Erakovic (NZL). At the end of the year, Mihaela was 155 in singles and 177 in doubles.

2012:

In 2012, Mihaela won two doubles tournaments ($ 25,000 Zwevegem, $ 25,000 Mont-De-Marsan), but in September after the tournament in Podgorica (Montenegro), she withdrew from tennis for two years after the injury. On tennis courts, Mihaela returned at the end of September 2014 and managed to win a futures tournament in Bucharest on the home court.

2015:

In 2015, Mihaela returns to the top 300, wins 4 doubles titles and 4 titles in singles. The biggest success was recorded by winning two $ 25,000 ITF tournaments in Cairo, Egypt and Middelkerke, Belgium. 2015, Mihaela finished at 260 in singles and 279 in doubles.

2016:

In the previous year, Mihaela played only 13 tournaments because of injuries. She failed to win any single singles tournament but won two doubles tournaments ($ 50,000 Saguenay - w. E. Bogdan, $ 50,000 + H Tampico - w.E.Mertens). She finished her year at 351 in singles and 198 in doubles.

2017:

This year, Mihaela started in the Australian Open qualifications, in the first round Mihaela defeated Olga Govortsova (BLR), but in the second was defeated by Olivia Rogowska (AUS). After the Australian Open, Mihaela returns to the weakest futures tournament in Egypt where he records some worse results.The first tournament in this year Mihaela wins at the tournament in Dunakeszi, Hungary ($ 25,000). In doubles, Mihaela in pair with Irina Maria Bara won the tournament winning in the finals Negreanu/Simon. A series of excellent results and TOP 100 breakthroughs began with a $60,000 tournament in Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary in singles. In the final after a great fight, Mihaela beats Danka Kovinic (MNE). On the same tournament, Mihaela also won matches against exceptional players such as Vera Lapko (BLR), Alexandra Panova (RUS).

Next week, Mihaela wins the $60,000 ITF tournament in Izmir, Turkey. In the finals she met with Eri Hozumi (JPN), Mihaela played a great match and decimated the opponent 6-1,6-0.

With great results, Mihaela continued in July when she won another 2 ITF tournaments ($25,000 Getxo, $60,000 Versmold). First appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam Tournament, Mihaela is heading to US Open. After she passed the qualifications, Mihaela was defeated in the first round by excellent Danish player Caroline Wozniacki 1-6,5-7.

In September, Mihaela wins the $80,000 ITF Tournament in Biarritz, France. In the final, Mihaela won the former top 10 player, Patty Schnyder (SUI) 6-4,6-3. At the WTA Tournament in Linz, Mihaela came to the semifinals where she lost to Barbora Strycova (CZE) 3-6,6-7.

Mihaela made the highest career success and breakthrough among the top 100 players by winning the $100,000 tournament in Poitiers, France. After 4 great games, Mihaela won Van Uytvanck (BEL) 6-4,6-2 in the final. After this tournament, Mihaela also played in the finals $100,000 in Tokyo and then the $60,000+H tournament in Toyota,JPN. In this tournament, Mihaela won another title winning the young tennis player from Slovenia, Tamara Zidansek in two sets 6-0,6-1. With excellent results in the second half of 2017, Mihaela achieved a place in the TOP 60 on the WTA list and announced the continuation of excellent games and results in 2018.
